Rugby being the national sport of New Zealand, it’s not surprising that even some of the schools rugby is played at an incredibly intense level. Two brothers, Ben and Andrew Donegan, and their friend Joel Ryan had a chance encounter with a rogue great white shark off the coast of Portland, Australia, on January 27. The friends were out on a routine fishing trip when the 5-meter shark began to circle their boat. As the shark circled the men decided to try and pet it. Fresh from unleashing its latest high-tech cleaners, the DC47 cylinder vacuum and the DC50 upright vacuum cleaner, Dyson set its engineers another challenge – with a bit of a twist.
The objective was to design a remote controlled car using a ball and spare Dyson parts. The British electronics giant had over 50 engineers take part and, after three weeks of development, the winning car was chosen.
Made up of different mechanics and Dyson parts, the team took an iterative approach engineering a robust and highly manoeuvrable vehicle. Check out the video for all the action.
